"All of  Robert Hamilton's playing has color
and sensitivity.  He is a fine artist."

- Harold C. Schonberg, American Record Guide &
author of The Great Pianists

"Throughout the concert Hamilton held his
audience spellbound, and was faultless
in every respect."

- Handelsblad, Amsterdam

"This is an incomparable demonstration
of how remarkably tender and gripping these
works can be.  The caliber of his artistry
and the remarkable acuity of his insight are
unique in my experiences. (Nielsen piano works)"

- Fanfare

"Hamilton is an awesome pianist with incredible
technic and breathtaking verve. He revealed sensitivity
and musicianship of the greatest magnitude.
(Beethoven Sonata Opus 111)
No ovation was ever more deserved."

- Arizona Republic

"Robert Hamilton cultivates a suave, lyrical
piano sound and a spontaneous musical approach.
The Chopin B minor Sonata (was) placed in a fresh
poetic perspective. Mr. Hamilton dashed off the
virtuoso studies with bravura to spare.
(Rachmaninoff Etudes-Tableaux) "

"This is a unique and completely original book about the performance of classical music. Along with the text discussion it offers freshly recorded interpretations of famous piano works, performed to suggest various artistic possibilities. Artistry focuses on the importance of freedom in interpretation. I hope the authors will create more books about this important area. There should be more books like this."
- Anthony Newman, leading Baroque scholar, author, keyboardist and conductor (from the Preface)

"I cannot recommend more highly that everyone should have a book like this. Whether you are a performer, teacher or music lover, this will surely be the book to feed you."
- Sa Chen, leading Chinese pianist

"For musicians, the printed page is at best a hollow approximation of the composer’s genuine inspiration. This book, as no other, lays the breadcrumb trail to that magical, spiritual place behind the page."
- Paul Harvey, Jr., Author and producer of The Rest of the Story® series, Radio Hall of Fame inductee, twice recipient of the Edward R. Morrow Award for writing

"A superb book and performances. Its value cannot be overestimated."
- Alexander Toradze

"I give my highest endorsement to this important new book, which probes many of the most critical components of artistry and creative interpretation with great insight. It is a much-needed book for students, professors and dedicated musicians of all levels. Mr. Hamilton’s extraordinary artistry requires no introduction, and he is without question among the most versatile and multi-faceted artists in the musical world today."
- Phillip N. Kawin, Piano Faculty, Manhattan School of Music

Artistry is an unprecedented new book which reveals the path for turning ordinary performing into true artistry.  The essence of the composer's initial inspiration that came to life before it was committed to the page often eludes performers who are merely trying to execute the score "correctly".  The authors offer ways in which the realization of music can approach the lofty dimensions of the masters' creations themselves:  hence Artistry.  Included with the book are performed aural examples demonstrating various artistic approaches to selected piano works.

If we are to be Artists, we must free ourselves to interpret, considering carefully the era in which the composer lived, and finding a vision that goes far beyond the printed score.  In so doing, we ought to awaken the creative freedom the great composers themselves have employed while performing their composed and scored works.
